About Shirin:

Shirin Zarqa-Lederman is a Child & Adolescent Psychologist who specializes in Experiential & Group Therapy with children and adolescents from ages 4 to 18.

Shirin is a wife and mother of five children. Shirin lives in New Jersey with her family, where she was born and raised. She is a Board Certified Professional Counselor and is licensed in NJ. Her 17 year counseling career has focused solely on children and adolescents and their families.

She utilizes experiential therapies, which is a process whereby-as she puts it- “if you can experience it you can feel it, and if you can feel it you can choose whether or not to recreate it.”

Most recently Shirin’s practice has transformed into “mobile” therapy, where she counsels in a clients’ home rather than the traditional counselor office. This allows her to experience a child in his/her element-a much more natural setting. Her attention has been children and adolescents who have difficulty socializing with their peers, developing and maintaining focus on daily tasks, managing behavior within a school setting, as well as a familial setting.

Prior to her private practice Shirin was the Program Coordinator for the Adolescent Substance Abuse Unit at Princeton House - a Division of the Medical Center at Princeton.  Shirin spent seven years at Princeton House where she started as an Mental Health Assistant (MHA) during which time she facilitated both individual and group therapy for the inpatient co-ed facility.

Shirin is also the author of the childrens book series The Trotters of Tweeville.  A series of books that teach children and remind adults of the golden rules - treat others how you want to be treated, if you have nothing nice to say don't say it and others.

In October of 2015 Shirin was nominated and awarded the Distinguished Alumna of the Year Award from The Chicago School of Profressional Psychology where she earned her MS in Child and Adolescent Psychology.
